If you aren’t experimenting, chances are you are stagnating. In an attempt to cast the net ever wider, and especially to create a large community of singing bass-clef voices, I’m trying a new all-school TTBB choir, which we’re calling the RamChoir. (Rockford’s mascot is the Rams.)
I’m opening it up to all bass-clef voices in the high school community: choir students, non-choir students, teachers, administrators. I’ll use my small men’s group, the Rockford Aces, as section leaders and anchors; the choir will perform as part of my Aces Spring Concert in June.
I’m hopeful to continue finding new singers to be a part of the program we’re building; hoping to serve an underserved community, and with luck help some of these singers to find their way into curricular choirs.
In all this I will have five rehearsals with the large group to team build, learn the music, and prepare for performance. I am searching far and wide for the right repertoire, games, strategies to make the RamChoir come to life; if you have any tips that you’ve found successful, please let me know!
