A choir teacher has many jobs. But in the end, the most important one coincides with this cherished quote from Howard Thurman:
“Do not ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
Choir teachers are, by chance and by choice, perfectly placed to help their students with this. And facilitating young adults to come alive might be the most precious of our many jobs. It’s utterly unquantifiable, but nonetheless clearly visible in the connections choir teachers maintain with generations of students.
