“Invite With” Instead of “Perform For”

What if, instead of performing music for your audience in concert, you invited the audience along with you to experience it?

The perspective shift is big, and I think it’s a better reflection of the aims we should have.

Performing for has an essence of rote that belies the goals of a choir.

If you consider the music as something that you are uncovering through the rehearsal process, then you must consider the performance a chance to share your discoveries with an audience.

Don’t perform. Bridge the gap between choir and audience, and invite them with you into your music.

Share what you’ve discovered, make the music with the care you’ve taken in rehearsal; don’t simply perform the music, but embody it in a way that invites the audience to share in its impact.
