When A Mistake Is No Problem

We are all prone to making mistakes. It’s part of being human and it’s an important part of growth.

Here’s a concept I’m working to imprint into my sons brains – and my students, too.

[Something happens – forgot homework, dropped and broke a plate, etc.]

Son: Oops, I dropped and broke a plate!

Dad: What did you learn?

Son: (thinking) I learned a lot of things.

[Together, we make a list of things – with lots of guidance and questions from me]

If you learn something, a mistake is no problem.

It takes guidance and constant dialogue, but learning the lessons when the consequences are small is the best possible outcome.

(As of this morning, my youngest is holding the plate with two hands and my oldest packed his backpack last night.)
