The Core Mission

When you’re competent, you get asked to do things. What a flattering experience: to be trusted with a new project, a new job.

But saying “yes” to every offer means taking time away from other important activities.

The thing to do is look ahead. Where do you want to go? What is your core mission?

If the offered gig isn’t along the road you’re heading, just say to yourself, “That’s not part of the core mission,” and politely decline.

The only way to get where you want to go is to define it and head directly towards it.

I know mine: what is your core mission?
