Social Media Diet

Facebook I love you, but you’re bringing me down.

I work every day to live an intentional life, making positive choices and showing up. But social media creep into down moments and slowly grow and grow and grow.

For December, I’m taking a step away. From Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. They are the mindless time sucks that get in the way of my progress. In your life, too?

can’t completely eliminate social media – I use them as tools to communicate with my ensemble, to share my work, to keep up-to-date with family.

Here are the steps I can take with no regret:

  • Delete Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram apps from phone and iPad. (I kept Facebook Messenger & email, in case you need to reach me.)
  • Set up a WasteNoTime extension that blocks those sites for a big portion of the day (I’m starting with 7am-3pm for now).
  • Enable my sons to call me out if I’m mindlessly using the computer. (Oof – that’s going to hurt the first time.)

There’s just not enough time to do all I want to do, and as much as I love my family, friends, former students, colleagues, the always-available access is getting in my way.

I don’t expect it to be easy, but I do expect it to be worth it. Expect updates from the front.

And let me know if you’re interested in joining me.
