More MATH!

What do we want from the future leaders of our society?

Overwhelmingly, we are hearing attributes like the following:

  • Self-starter
  • Flexible and able to learn new skills on their own
  • Creative problem solver
  • Insightful with a grasp of the larger world

Technologists, scientists, engineers: certainly they will be an important part of our digital future. But only one part. We need entrepreneurs, business owners, connectors, creators, leaders.

I am certain that the key to helping our students become the brilliant creators of our future is found in currently-marginalized studies of art, music, and the humanities. It is through experiencing art as creators and consumers that our students will become future creators, and have their consciousness expanded so that they will have something to say when it is their turn to speak.

Never mind STEM, what we really need is a little more MATH!
