Finding Your People on Halloween

Here’s a Heartwarming Halloween Story, written by my wife.

Our oldest came home from school Friday feeling disappointed that his classmates didn’t recognize his Percy Jackson Halloween costume. There were lots of tears and lots of hugs.

After the boys went to bed, the hero of our family (Jed) posted an animated gif on Twitter and tagged the author of the Percy Jackson series, Rick Riordan.

The tweet:

Saturday morning we found that Rick Riordan had retweeted the image, and about 30,000 people have seen it (432 favorites, 98 retweets). Owen woke up to awesome comments about his Halloween costume from fellow Percy Jackson fans like: “Look at this cool kid!” and “This is too adorable can we all just appreciate this please ?”

He went from dejected to inspired, because the community of Percy Jackson fans embraced him.

Sometimes you just need to find your people…wherever they may be.

Your people are out there; this was a great reminder that just because they aren’t physically close to you doesn’t mean they don’t exist. Technology circa 2015 makes it easier than ever to keep your people close even when they’re far away.
