Be *You* on the Podium

I’m a nerd. Analytical, thorough, thoughtful. The way I think about music is heavily influenced by my understanding of harmony, theory, the compositional/arranging process.
It’s taken me a long time to learn to be that on the podium, too.
There are many different choral conductor archetypes, but one of the most prevalent is the emotive one.
That’s not who I am: I’m happy to be emotionally present and honest with my choir, but I am rarely the one weeping along with them at the end of a concert.
Understand who you are and translate it into how you conduct and teach. You’ll be more honest, more effective, and you’ll enjoy it more.
